On 16 June 2024, the International Union of Scientists (IUS) will present a conversation with two leading experts on how Israel uses technology to surveil and kill, in Palestine and beyond, and how Israeli technology enables repression elsewhere. Webinar presented by Jane Duncan and Matt Mahmoudi, with special guest Mick Napier, and moderated by Natalya Dinat and Manabendra Nath Bera.

Duncan: Exporting the Israeli Surveillance State

Jane Duncan is Professor of Digital Society, University of Glasgow, and a Visiting Professor, University of Johannesburg. She is author of The Rise of the Securocrats (2014), Protest Nation (2016), Stopping the Spies (2018) and National Security Surveillance in Southern Africa (2022). Matt Mahmoudi is Researcher & Advisor on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Amnesty International. He is an Affiliated Lecturer in Sociology, University of Cambridge, lead author of Automated Apartheid (2023), and author of Migrants in the Digital Periphery (2025).
